11 Oct, UAE – Brother Industries, Ltd. (President: Ichiro Sasaki) has released the revised version of the online content Origami
Letter, which was improved in usability in response to user opinions, in time with the International Letter Writing
Week* from October 9 to 15, 2021. This online content was specifically created for promoting the company’s cosponsoring of the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Origami Letter presents a content through which visitors can experience heartwarming communication like letters
by exchanging cordial message-carrying origami — a traditional paper art rooted in Japanese culture — even in
situations where human communication is difficult under the COVID-19 pandemic.
Expo 2020 Dubai started on October 1, 2021 under the slogan of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.” It is
the first international registration exposition in the Middle East. The Japan Pavilion is operated under the theme
of “Where ideas meet.”
The external appearance of the Japan Pavilion was inspired by a pattern of origami. Brother Industries will run a
video featuring origami at the entrance area of the Japan Pavilion and conduct promotional campaigns through
social media in time with the International Letter Writing Week. Thus, the company will contribute to promoting
Japanese culture at the Expo.
“Origami is a traditional craft representing Japan, and the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has been designed
in the thematic concept of the origami,” said Isao Ando, Director of the Japan Pavilion, “In the one-week period
since the opening of the Expo, our pavilion has attracted a large number of visitors, who have had to wait in queues
for as long as two hours. We also air the Origami Letter movie in the pavilion’s waiting space to promote Japanese
traditional culture to visitors of the Japan Pavilion.”
Origami Letter won the iF GOLD AWARD of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2021, one of the most prestigious design
award in the world. The iF GOLD AWARD recognizes exceptional excellence among the items selected for the
iF DESIGN AWARD.
* International Letter Writing Week: A week that was internationally adopted for the purpose of promoting mutual
