Establishing the Brother brand
The period between 1961 and 1964 was one where Brother gradually established and strengthened its brand.
In 1961, the headquarters building was completed in Japan. In 1962, our corporate name changed from Nippon Sewing Machine Manufacturing Co. to Brother Industries, Ltd.
At the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, Brother provided 300 typewriters for journalists from abroad, helping greatly improve global recognition of the Brother brand.
During the same period, Brother Industries was also listed on the Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya stock exchanges. Also, Brother started its move towards the fields of business machines and machine tools.
